The Active Stratovolcano
Mount Meru is Tanzania’s second-highest mountain at 4,566 meters (14,980 feet) and one of East Africa’s
most spectacular and underrated trekking destinations. Located just 70 kilometers west of Mount
Kilimanjaro, it sits inside Arusha National Park, offering hikers a unique combination of adventure,
wildlife, and breathtaking landscapes.
The active stratovolcano, last erupting in 1910. Its dramatic horseshoe-shaped
crater, steep ridges, and lush forested slopes provide some of the most scenic and diverse treks in
Africa. On a clear day, the summit offers striking views of Kilimanjaro rising in the distance.
